In
simple terms, silencing is the act of reducing noise to an acceptable level
for the location or working conditions surrounding the noise producing
equipment. MAXIM's complete line of stock and standard design silencers
readily solves noise problems of many applications.
INTAKE SILENCERS - Absorptive Designs:
FPE
- Recommended for use where a low pressure drop is mandatory and a medium
degree of high frequency noise reduction is required. Available sizes:
1" through 30" connection sizes
FPC
- Recommended for use where a medium to high degree of noise reduction
is required. Available sizes: 14" through 36" connection sizes (larger
sizes on request).
FPS
- Recommended where a high degree of high frequency noise reduction is
required. Available sizes: 6" through 30" connection sizes (larger sizes
on request).
EXHAUST SILENCERS:MAXIM's
complete line of stock and standard design silencers readily solves noise
problems of many applications.
Chamber type silencers provide
the best noise control across the entire audible range. The basic design
incorporates non-resonant side tube arrangements to permit passage of the
exhaust gases from one chamber to another. This creates a reversal of flow
and develops a predictable amount of back pressure. Another important feature
of chamber type silencers is the availability of side inlet exhaust connections.
Side connections will, in many instances, greatly facilitate installation
of the silencer by eliminating the need for elbows in the piping systems.
CHAMBER
TYPE, REACTIVE SILENCERS:
M21
- Industrial Grade - 20 dbA overall attenuation. For silencing requirements
in industrial areas where background noise is relatively high.
M31
- Medium Grade - 24 dbA overall attenuation. For silencing in semi-residential
areas where some background noise is present but not objectionable.
M41
- Critical Residential Grade - 28 dbA overall attenuation. For high degree,
critical grade silencing for use where equipment must operate in quiet
residential areas.
M51
- Hospital Critical Grade - 32 dbA overall attenuation. Designed
to provide the highest degree of silencing and will successfully meet the
requirements of the most critical type of application.
MUL
- Small engine silencer comparable to M31 attenuation.
CHAMBER
TYPE, SPARK ARRESTING SILENCERS:
MSA1
- Industrial Grade - 20 dbA overall Attenuation. Highly efficient
spark arresting silencer with M21 silencing characteristics.
MSA2
- Medium Grade - 24 dbA overall Attenuation. Highly efficient spark arresting
silencer with M31 silencing characteristics.
MSA3
- Critical Residential Grade - 28 dbA overall Attenuation. Highly efficient
spark arresting version of the M41.
MSA4
- Hospital Critical Grade - 32 dbA overall Attenuation. Highly efficient
spark arresting version of the M51.
CHAMBER
TYPE, LOW PRESSURE DROP DESIGN SILENCERS:
MT21
- Low Pressure Drop - 16 dbA overall Attenuation. For use in industrial
areas where background noise levels are comparatively high and very low
back pressure is required.
MT31
- Low Pressure Drop - 19 dbA overall Attenuation. For moderate degree of
mid-range octave band attenuation and with very low back pressure.
MT41
- Low Pressure Drop - 22 dbA overall Attenuation. For a high degree of
noise suppression in mid-range octave bands and with very low back pressure.
MARINE
ENGINE APPLICATIONS, WET EXHAUST SYSTEMS:
MP11
- Low Pressure Drop - 18 dbA overall Attenuation. Fiberglass construction
offers relatively low weight and good performance for wet marine applications.
Can be used in series with either MP31 or MP41 for additional attenuation.
MP31
- Medium Grade Silencing - 25 dbA overall Attenuation. Fiberglass construction
offers relatively low weight. The MP31 design provides better attenuation
and medium pressure drop for wet marine exhaust applications.
MP41
- High Grade Silencing - 35 dbA overall Attenuation. The fiberglass MP41
design offers the best performance for wet marine applications.
GAS TURBINE SILENCERS:
SSES and MGTE
- Absorptive, concentric panel, exhaust silencers with low pressure drop
and high noise reduction when used on the exhaust of gas turbines.
Typical construction is carbon steel with mineral wool or fiberglass acoustical
packing. Stainless steel internals (304 s.s. or 409 s.s.) are available.
